Cholam Dosa Recipe | Cholam Idly Recipe
Ingredients Needed for preparing Cholam Dosa/Idly Batter:
- Cholam / Sorghum - 4 Cups
- Urad Dal - 1 Cup
- Idly Rice - 1 Cup
- Fenugreek - 1 Tsp
- Salt - As Needed
Preparation:
- Soak all of the above ingredients in water for at least 4-5 hours
- Grind the soaked items in a wet grinder, by adding water little by little until it forms a smooth batter. (no need to grind urad dal seperately)
- During the last round of grinding, add salt and then remove it and shift the batter to a storage container.
- Fill the batter only half of the storage container to avoid overflow of batter after fermentation
- Keep the batter at room temperature for at least 1-2 hours for fermentation.
- You can now prepare idly or dosa out of the fermented batter.
- Place the remaining batter in the refridgerator and the batter can be used for a week time
- If you prefer your dosa or idly to be little spicy, you can add some grated carrots, chopped onions, coriander leaves, red chilli flakes and curry leaves to the batter for more spicy dosa and idly
- This recipe suites best with kara chutney and mint chutney
